jb Burke
Jonathan Burke is a Jamaican-American dancer from Boston, MA who now lives in Atlanta, GA. He specializes in instructing Afro-Cuban folkloric and Cuban Popular/Traditional dance. Jonathan has also taught Salsa On2 at the world Renowned Masacote Entertainment. His Cuban folkloric instructors have hailed from various important institutions like Raíces Profundas, La Escuela Nacional de Artes, and more to give him a superb instructional foundation, which he constantly expands on through independent study. Jonathan began learning Cuban popular dance through the hands of many instructors, but has since developed much of his current technique for Cuban traditional/Popular dances independently through comparative historic study of Cuban dance and music. Jonathan’s independent work and studies have allowed him to travel across the US to teach, perform, and choreograph in festivals, salsa congresses, weekenders, universities, and even present on major stages in venues such as the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. Jonathan also was a choreographer for the DC Casineros during the time he lived there. Since moving to Atlanta, Jonathan has collaborated with local folkloristas, and is working to build an appreciation for Afro-Cuban dance through private lessons, study groups, and soon to be announced plans for cultural programming for Cuban music and dance.
